The hermitage of El Calvario or Ermita del Santo Calvario is a secular Catholic community working in the city of Antigua Guatemala. It is one of the few religious buildings that survived both the earthquakes of Santa Marta in 1773 and the subsequent transfer of the capital from the Captain General of Guatemala, then known as Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala, to a new place. The parish of El Calvario has been open for worship since its foundation on 19 November 1618 and is recognized for being built by the holy brother Pedro de Betancur. The church has a very original manneristic scheme, since the structure consists of a triple portico with three bell towers, which conclude it with "great scenographic effect." Following the Mexican pattern of the late Baroque period, the chapel with its exposed portal stands behind a small atrium.
